Origin Story

Araya's story began for me in 2019 on a bumpy bus ride through northern Ethiopia with my cousin, Darci. What started as a simple conversation during that journey soon grew into a shared vision.

Over the following year, we spent countless hours praying, researching, and refining the idea before launching Araya at the end of 2021. Our original mission was to source high-quality raw materials—such as aloe and avocado oil—from Ethiopia and transform them into products for the U.S. market, creating meaningful economic opportunities for local communities.

Over the next two years, we partnered with entrepreneurs throughout Ethiopia. Along the way, we experienced both successes and unexpected challenges that ultimately reshaped our vision. More importantly, I witnessed firsthand how impact businesses could create lasting social, environmental, economic, and spiritual impact. I met inspiring entrepreneurs who were using their work not only to provide jobs and create beautiful products, but to restore dignity, strengthen communities, care for creation, and share the hope of Christ.

Those experiences changed the direction of Araya. I realized my passion wasn't simply creating products—it was connecting people to the incredible makers and the stories behind their work. I wanted to create a way for others to discover beautiful, artisan-made goods while supporting businesses that are making a meaningful difference in their communities.

In 2026, I entered a new chapter as the sole owner of Araya and refined the business into thoughtfully curated gift boxes and artisan collections. Today, my heart is to help people give meaningful gifts that support artisans, celebrate craftsmanship, and share the stories of the beautiful work God is doing in communities around the world.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Every purchase is an opportunity to encourage talented makers, invest in communities, and remind someone they are seen, valued, and loved.

Blessings!

Shana
